Rusty Takes Flight

Commissioned by the team at Kinnegar Brewing , in the heart of County Donegal on Ireland’s Atlantic north-west coast, Rusty was created as a bespoke promotional piece.

The brief was to build something bold, fun, and full of personality - loosely inspired by, but not replicating, the beautiful character artwork featured across Kinnegar’s outstanding range of craft beers. With a clear wish list from the client, and mindful that Rusty is no longer with us and was clearly much loved by the Kinnegar team, we set out to create a rugged and lovable new Rusty.

Our team relished the challenge of constructing a sturdy biplane - an eye-catching centrepiece that reflects Kinnegar’s commitment to originality, quality, and a satisfying, adventurous take on refreshment.

Rusty himself presented an enjoyable challenge. Structural integrity was essential, so flimsy details were out of the question. Instead, we embraced an old-school approach: chunky forms, hand-crafted character, solid wings, and bold textured stitching and rivets throughout.

Rusty earns his wings and takes pride of place.
We believe we captured exactly what the client wanted: larger-than-life, independent, windswept, dependable, fun-loving, and above all, full of character.

Much like a Kinnegar beer.
